Running in the Family #2

Michael Ondaatje, the author of Running in the Family, still remains a mystery to me. He seems at this point to be more of an author of a fictional tale than a memiorist. I feel as if he wants to hold back on revealing himself personally or that he has incredible interest in the lives and relations of his ancestors. Maybe he feels that he will stumble upon who he really is through gaining more information about the lives of those whose gene's he carries within himself. Maybe we are reading into his personal discovery? I still find his writing style to be confusing but interesting. He keeps my attention though I feel lost with in his words and transitions of his stories.

I thought that the multiple poems he inserted into the chapters where excellent. It broke up the lines of stories and I think that gave incite to who he is simply because he chose to include them.

My absolute favorite was "The Cinnamon Peeler.” I thought it was great. It was full of humor and connected to his essays in the fact that it was about finding that love he had desired so deeply for. I also like it because I think he is the author of it and it lets us know who he is and how he thinks when it comes to his inner feelings.

I also enjoyed the essay titled “Tounge.” The way he wrote was extremely intriguing.
